Panola County Gets Police Radio Station
Taken from The Panola Watchman, March 21, 1946
Panola County can rightfully be pruned of its short wave police radio system. This county is possible the smallest in population to have such a complete system.
C.L. Pringle, Radio Engineer, for the Motorola Radio Corporation, and David Moore of Moradio, this city, installed the broadcasting set here over the weekend.
Three squad cars from the sheriff's department and one to be operated by the city, will have receiving sets installed which will make possible two-way communication to the courthouse. The sending equipment is located in the office of the sheriff. It is possible to talk two ways over the system and any of the cares carrying radio equipment can communicate with each other.
On the first night one of these similar systems was installed in Meridian, Mississippi, a man was arrested four minutes after he attempted to steal an ambulance.
The installation of the new radio system means that Panola County will be completely covered with the latest police equipment.
The commissioner's court of Panola County authorized the purchase of the system at the instigation of Sheriff Corbett Akins.
