Texas A & M Fire School
 

July 18-23, 2010, the 81st Municipal Fire School had 4 students and 6 instructors participating from the Carthage Fire Department. Carl Anderson took Fire Fighting 1; John Lister and Willie Brooks took Fire Fighting 2; Phil Gates took Fire Fighting 4.

The instructors included 28-year member of the fire department, 1st Asst. Fire Chief Gene Giles who taught positive pressure ventilation advanced forcible entry in firefighting Phase 3. This is his 8th year to be an instructor. Steve Williams was also an instructor on the same project. This was his 3rd year as an instructor and he has been a firefighter for 15 years. Mark Dawson, firefighter for 11 years, instructed the Firefighting 4, tank and dike fires. He has been an instructor for 8 years. Randy Liedtke taught on that same project, and this was his 5th year as instructor. He has been with the fire department for 9 years and currently serves as the department's training officer. Duane Baushke was the advanced firefighting instructor in AMFO FLAG, advanced municipal firefighting operations, flammable liquids and gases. This is Baushke's 9th year to instruct. He has 15 years of service in the fire department and is 2nd Assistant Fire Chief. Bryan Rickert taught the Fire Investigator 1 course for fire marshals getting their fire investigations license. This is Rickert's 11th year as an instructor and he has 24 years of service in the fire department. He is currently the paid Fire Marshal for the City of Carthage and the president of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas (SFFMA).

It is recognized as the largest live-fire training facility and the most comprehensive emergency response training complex in the world. Emergency responders hone their skills during realistic scenarios on full-scale props, including an aerial cooler that is the world's largest burn prop, a multi-level chemical complex, a pipe rack, rail cars, an airplane fuselage, a ship and the largest Liquefied National Gas (LNG) fireground prop anywhere. TEEX trains and provides technical assistance for more than 81,000 emergency responders from all 50 states and 45 countries each year.
